Victorian Era Dance Series
Sundays, October 5 ~ November 2 ~ December 7
4:00 - 6:00 pm
Dick Shea's Studio, 104 W. 14th St at 6th Ave, New York City
This trio of classes will look at some of the dances popular in the
early Victorian era. October's class will cover the basics of the
Schottische and a mid-century Schottische Quadrille. November's
class will focus on two dances written by London dance teacher
and author Mrs. Nicholas Henderson in the 1850s: an easy set
dance and a deliciously complex quadrille. December's class will
drop back to the 1830s and cover a delightful choreographed
galopade and the stately figures of the polonaise.
No previous experience is needed, but any prior couple dance
experience will be helpful. Flat shoes are recommend for ladies -
these are not the sort of dances which can be comfortably done in
heels.
Workshop cost is $12 per person in advance or $15 at the door per
class. The entire series may be had for $35. To preregister, please
make checks payable to The Elegant Arts Society and mail them
to P.O. Box 1186, New York, NY 10159-1186. Please include your full
name, address, phone number, and email address and indicate which
class(es) you are registering for.
