1910's One-Step ~ Tango ~ Half & Half ~ Hesitation Waltz ~ Maxixe
Sundays, June 29 ~ August 3 ~ September 7, 2008 ~ 4:00-6:00pm
Dick Shea's Studio, 104 W. 14th St at 6th Ave, New York City
This trio of classes will examine both popular and exotic dances of
the 1910s. The end-of-June ("July") class will cover new and
interesting moves for the one-step and
tango. The August class will explore the novelty
half and half (a 5/4 time ragtime hesitation waltz) and
the 1914 "Twinkle Hesitation", a simple hesitation waltz sequence.
September's class will focus on the maxixe, or
"Brazilian tango". For those who may have learned the maxixe as a
choreographed sequence, this will be a quite different experience in
leading and following various moves freestyle.
No previous experience is needed, but any prior couple dance
experience will be helpful. A handout describing the steps taught in
each class will be provided.
Workshop cost is $12 per person in advance or $15 at the door per
class. To preregister, please make checks payable to The Elegant
Arts Society and mail them to P.O. Box 1186, New York, NY
