Our Mission

The primary mission of the Elegant Arts Society is to promote historically-accurate Regency-era social dance, particularly in the tri-state area (NY-NJ-CT) and the rest of the Northeastern United States. Secondarily, we support and promote historical social dance of other periods of interest, ranging from the 15th through the early 20th centuries. This includes:

• providing regular instruction in Regency dancing at a level open to beginners but with sufficient variety to challenge more experienced dancers

• encouraging research into and the construction/purchase and wearing of accurate Regency costume at suitable events

• holding or supporting the holding of social events such as balls, assemblies, picnics, and teas which involve active participation in Regency activities

• providing workshops in and supporting social events of other periods of historic social dance
