Connecticut Regency Dance Classes

Winter 2004 Introductory Series!

Monday nights, 7:15-9:15pm, January 12, 19, 26 & February 2, 9, 16

Join us for a short introductory series of workshops on the dances of the early 19th century, the age of Jane Austen, Napoleon, Lord Byron, and Beau Brummel. Not like you see in the movies, these dances are lively and varied. Learn figures from the French and Royal Scotch Quadrilles, country dances, scotch reels, and the early waltz. No experience is needed - steps and figures will be taught. The classes are semi-sequential; while the basics will be retaught each time, students will benefit more by taking the entire series. The final class will be primarily a dance party in which students can practice what they learned.

No partner is needed, but equal numbers of men and women are not guaranteed. (It is acceptable in this period of history for men or women to dance with each other if the numbers are out of balance.)

Classes will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 292 Orange Street, New Haven, CT. Directions here. Please bring flat, leather-soled (not rubber) dance shoes or slippers. High heels are not suited to this style of dance.

This series costs $9 per class or $42 for the series. Students age 21 and under may take individual classes for $5 or pay only $25 for the entire series. Preregistration for the series is greatly appreciated. To preregister, please make checks payable to The Elegant Arts Society and mail them to P.O. Box 8997, New Haven, CT 06532 to arrive by January 9, 2004. Please include your full name, address, phone number, and email address.
